Chasing the Magellanic Clouds

The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are icons of the southern skies, and are visible more-or-less year-round from down under.
At least as prominent is the beautiful complex of dark nebulosity that stretches from Crux through Centaurus, Norma, Ara and on into Scorpius. When this region rises, as the photo above shows, it is easy to imagine an ancient, cosmic, plesiosaur, long neck craning, in tantalising pursuit of the Magellanic Clouds.
