Top Story — NGC 5844 in Triangulum Australe

NGC 5844 in Triangulum Australe, imaged by Dale Liebenberg.
NGC 5844 lies in western TrA, within the main stream of the Milky Way and some 5° from alpha Centauri.
It was discovered by John Herschel while at the Cape, and his notes read as if it was a distant globular cluster: round and brighter to the middle. Read more about Herschel's observations and that of others, in the NGC 5844 database entry.

Star chart centred on NGC 5844, showing it's location within the main stream of the Milky Way.
