NGC 3301 = NGC 3760, which see.
Synonyms: H II-046
Discovered in 1784 by William Herschel with an 18.7-inch f/13 speculum telescope. He called it "pB S r." Dreyer notes: "PD 8' too small, and the neb = h.728. " In the NGC, Dreyer notes: "II-46 is quite certainly h.728; there is only one nebula here and h and d'Arrest agree."
The RNGC (Sulentic and Tifft 1973) notes that this is a 12.5 mag galaxy. Their coded description reads ALMEON,BM,DIFWINGS.
