Sulentic & Tifft (1973)

The RNGC (Sulentic and Tifft 1973) notes that this is a 11.5 mag galaxy. Their coded description reads S,HISB,DKLNS, KNY&DIF PERIPH.

This galaxy appears on page 29 of "The Hubble Atlas of Galaxies" by Allan Sandage (1961, Washington, DC).

Modern observations

Steve Coe

Steve Coe, using a 13" f/5.6, notes: "Pretty bright, large, elongated 2 X 1 and somewhat brighter in the middle at 100X. An 11th mag star in involved on the east side. At 135X this galaxy shows some mottling in moments of good seeing."

Burnham's Celestial Handbook

Burnham calls it a 11.1 mag many-armed spiral galaxy in Cetus, 2.8' x 2.1', "pretty bright, large, elongated."

Tom Lorenzin

Tom Lorenzin, in the electronic version of "1000+ The Amateur Astronomers' Field Guide to Deep Sky Observing", notes the magnitude as 11.1 and comments: "3'x 2' extent; nearly face-on spiral; 1.3 degrees N and a little E of N151; photo @ HAG-29."

Ancient City Astron.Club (1980)

Listed by the Herschel Club, described as "oval shaped, fuzzy with a bright nucleus fading in brightness towards the outer rim. Two field stars are situated within the galaxy. 8-inch, 48x."
