History and Accurate Positions for the NGC/IC Objects (Corwin 2004)
IC 191 = NGC 794. Swift's position is just nine seconds preceding JH's (adopted for GC and NGC), close enough that Dreyer suggested the identification in the IC. The descriptions are quite different, however, suggesting that Swift picked up the galaxy on a particularly good night, while WH and JH must have seen it on poor nights, or when their speculum mirrors needed repolishing.
In any case, the identity is almost certain as there are no other galaxies nearby that the Herschel's or Swift could have seen.
