Constellations
For centuries, nobody really knew (or cared, it seems) exactly where one constellation ended and another began.
Only in the early 20th century did astronomers reach consensus about which bit of sky belonged to which constellation. The outcome of these deliberations was a set of 88 irregular boundaries defining the official constellations.
