NGC 5706 = NGC 5699, which see.
Historical observations
William Herschel (c.1784)
Synonyms: H III-127
Recorded in 1784 by William Herschel with an 18.7-inch f/13 speculum telescope. He wrote it "Two. 3' distant, on the same parallel; the following [NGC 5706] is vF, vS, iR." The other object is NGC 5709.
NGC/IC Dreyer (1888, 1895, 1908)
Dreyer notes "they are identical with Stephans nebulae NGC 5706 and 5709."

The RNGC (Sulentic and Tifft 1973) notes that this is a 15.5 mag galaxy. Their coded description reads E,R,BM,*CLOSE N.
