This cluster is a very doubtful find: a 10-inch f/5 with a 40mm eyepice shows a vacant patch of sky; an 18mm eyepiece shows a fair-sized area of sky, sprinkled with very fine stars, but not at all clear or distinct.
1994-02-10, Die Boord, 11x80 tripod-mounted. On the map, this cluster is positioned between stars in a rich field. Averting vision on this spot shows only an elongated rich milky way background - not at all clear if this is the cluster or not.
1997-03-24, Monday. Jonkershoek. 11x80 tripod. Full Moon. Not found.

1997-09-20, Sutherland (Karoo), SAAO plateau. 11x80 tripod-mounted binoculars. Skies excellent. Looked for this one with attention; position easy to confirm, amid 7th mag stars; after some time, perhaps imagined as a round glow?

"Bertha" 12-inch f/4.8 Dobsonian (EP: 32mm, 25mm, 10mm, 6.3mm Plossls, 2x Barlow, 32mm Erfle)
Conditions: Clear, dark.
This "cluster" lies on the line between alpha and beta Crucis, near the north-western edge of the Coalsack. Star-hopping to its position as shown on MSA 988 (60x, 48' ep) shows an indistinct field of apparently randomly grouped starlets with no distinct association. Immediately west and south, the field is black (well before the indicated border of the Coalsack on MSA 988).
