Size: 3.235′ x 1.412′
Synonyms: H II-760
Discovered in 1788 by William Herschel with an 18.7-inch f/13 speculum telescope. He called it "pF, pS, R."
The RNGC (Sulentic and Tifft 1973) notes that this is a 13.0 mag galaxy. Their coded description reads EON,BM,EQDKLN.
G. de Vaucouleurs ("Galaxies and the Universe", Chapter 14 - Nearby Groups of Galaxies) notes that the five brightest members of the NGC 5866 Group are NGC 5866, NGC 5907, NGC 5879, NGC 5905 & NGC 5908.
Houston calls this "a tiny object, only 2' by 1'.
POSS: parallel to -07.
15cm - much brtr than -05, circ, 30" diam. BS, 6Jun1981, Slate Mtn.
25cm - pa150, 2'x1'. lentic halo. along maj axis is consp streak, in center
are *ings. halo brtr around core, as though center were illuminating
outer parts. BS, 6Jun1981, Slate Mtn.
30cm - smaller than -05, 2'x1' in pa150. inner core quite elong in same pa.
broad sl concen. both -05 and -08 in a rich fld consisting of a loose
assoc of six or eight m12.5-13 *s.
